Biography

Sofia Imbimbo is a jazz vocalist, composer, and arranger. She uses her smooth, clear tone and compositional technique to tell her own stories and create new experiences that capture and move her audience.

Born in New York City in 1997 and raised in Darien, Connecticut, Sofia grew up in an Italian American family. Sofia sung along to Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Louis Prima, and many more Italian American Jazz artists who served as a link to the rest of the genre.

Sofia has been playing piano since she was 4 and flute since 4th grade, but really got into jazz in high school when she attended a jazz camp over the summer. Sofia had already applied to be a Classical Voice major at the University of Illinois by the time jazz had started to become a major interest. After the first year at UIUC, Sofia decided to add jazz as a second major eventually receiving two degrees in Vocal Performance and Jazz Performance.

Since moving to Amsterdam August of 2019 to pursue her Master’s degree in Jazz Voice at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, Sofia has recorded her debut album, Mr. Cardinal, set to release April of 2023.
